Our mission

At Responsive Learning CIC we recognise that the STEM arena is a constantly evolving space of discovery and innovation, which should be accessible to everyone.

Whether you are new, returning or a seasoned STEM professional: We want “To make STEM learning more accessible for all,” no matter where you are on your career journey.

Providing access to tools and services for anyone interested in pursuing, moving into, understanding, or researching the joy and excitement that a career in the STEM industries brings. From creations, inventions, novel technologies, and space exploration to the future and beyond…

We strive to make the experience fair and equitable for everyone, whilst helping to remove the current barriers to learning.

Bridging the gaps

With that in mind, we particularly want to address the current inequalities in the jobs market and technical education sectors.

Given that half of the current UK workforce are women, you may be surprised to learn that only around a quarter of these enter a role within the STEM industries. Ethnic minority groups account for just over 10% of STEM roles overall, whilst those with disabilities scarcely represent around a tenth of STEM jobs.

Responsive Learning CIC is a forward-thinking company that embraces change, whilst helping to improve diversity and inclusion in STEM. By offering the right learning tools and support we can enable everyone to achieve their goals, no matter who they are.

Equity for all

We are a social enterprise, community interest company, and our activities are carried out for the benefit of any post-16 learners wanting to gain or develop skills in a STEM related subject

So, whether you are undertaking further education, training on the job, re-entering into the work environment or transitioning into higher education we would be delighted to help you.

Success in the STEM industries is a journey, which we want to share with you, all the way throughout your career.

Constantly evolving

Responsive Learning CIC was founded in 2022 by Dr Ruth Brown-Shepherd. Ruth is a PhD qualified Scientist, experienced Business Manager, Technical Consultant, Mentor and Entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience gained across a variety of different industries.

Over the years, Ruth received feedback from peers in the STEM community and observed inequalities during her own professional development journey. Having heard about the level of digital poverty made evident during the pandemic in 2020, it was time for a change.

Led by Ruth, Responsive Learning CIC is building a solid foundation for success by creating a strong collaborative network within both industry and academia.

The company works alongside others to deliver innovative solutions, whilst striving to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities within the STEM industries.

Responsive Learning CIC will always be evolving, as Katherine Johns, NASA scientist and mathematician states:

We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away but there will always be Science, Engineering and Technology. And there will always be Mathematics.
